THE SYNERGETIC EFFECT OF THE MEDIATS PROJECT Program ERASMUS +KA2: Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education (CBHE)

The head of the Project team from the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University Doctor of Laws, the head of the Department of Public Law Ruslana Havrylyuk and a member of the Project team, Dean of the Faculty, Professor Petro Patsurkivskyy developed the CODE OF ETHICS of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University during November-December, 2019. It was based on: relevant provisions of Ukrainian legislation, the publication of the Council of Europe “Ethical behavior of all actors in education”, developments of the Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine Project – SAIUP with the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine; experience in promoting the values of academic virtue of the partner universities of the MEDIATS Project; experience of other European universities.

This Code contains an extended glossary of terms and concepts of Article 42 “Academic Integrity” of the Law of Ukraine “On Education”, a system of principles and procedures for ensuring academic integrity at the university, the principles of the Ethics Commissions of the main structural units of the University.

Probably the most important attainment of the CODE OF ETHICS is that for the first time at the University the academic community of the university can resolve certain conflicts arising in the field of academic integrity through mediation, avoiding their judicial resolution.

Perhaps this is why the Code of Ethics of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University was unanimously approved by the Academic Council of the University on December 23, 2019 (protocol No 12) and also unanimously approved by the University Labor Conference on December 26, 2019.
